BATTERY CONNECTORS

What battery connectors you use depends mainly on personal preference and the application you're using them for. This page is designed to give you the lay down on each of the connectors we stock.

Deans Connectors

Probably the most common connectors used at racetracks around the world. The plugs are designed so that once you solder them on, you cannot connect your batteries in reverse - doing so will blow your ESC pretty quickly!

Deans plugs are relatively expensive, especially when you outfit ALL of your gear at the start, but the investment is well worth it. These things will not come loose during a race, and have the lowest resistance of any of our connectors - less resistance equals more power equals a faster vehicle.

Corally Style Connectors

Corally style connectors are favoured by a lot of racers for two reasons : firstly, they are ideal for joining two halves of a battery pack assembled in saddle formation, and secondly, they cut down on the amount of wire on your car. The tubes are simply soldered to the battery's positive and negative terminals, and two wires with positive corally plugs come from the ESC and connect to the battery tubes.

The biggest problem with using corally connectors is that it's VERY easy to plug the positive and negative wires into the wrong end of your battery pack - which usually results in a large sound, lots of smoke and one fried ESC. This is obviously a bad thing! In addition, these conenctors have higher resistance than Deans connectors, but the convenience may outweigh the ever so slight loss in power incurred by using corally style connectors.

As a result, these connectors are recommended for use by experienced racers only - and even then, you need to be very careful when you're using them.

Tamiya Style Connectors

Tamiya connectors are the "default" connectors that come with most batteries and ESCs. These connectors are rarely used by racers because they are relatively unreliable, and display very high resistance.

We do however understand that for someone who doesn't race, it's an extra cost that's difficult to justify - and if you've got many battery packs, it's not an inexpensive task!
